AUCD Celebrates April as Autism Awareness Month
On December 18, 2007, the UN General Assembly designated April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day, which was first observed in 2008. This UN resolution is one of only three official disease-specific United Nations Days that brings world attention to autism spectrum disorder, a developmental disorder that affects as many as 1 in 50 children, according to new estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The Judith Gravel Fellowship is awarded each year to an outstanding student in the fourth year of the Doctor of Audiology degree program. The recipient of the fellowship has the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience in dealing with hearing loss in babies and infants by working with specialists at the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine and the UNC Hospital. Dr. Gravel was always passionate in stressing the importance of an interdisciplinary team approach and clinical experience in practicing pediatric audiology. Read more...

Think College Insight Brief Describes Statewide Strategic Planning Grants
In an effort to support the continued growth in postsecondary options across the country, Think College funded Statewide Strategic Planning grants to 18 UCEDDs in 18 states from 2010 to 2012. Circular Graphs Show Relationships Between Time Use and Transportation (MT UCEDD)
 Andrew Myers uses circular graphs or "Circos graphs" as a visual tool to highlight relationships derived from large amounts of data from the American Time Use Survey. Circos graphs were initially used in the natural sciences to represent genome sequences, however, their utility for visualizing large data is particularly helpful for representing relationships between time use and transportation use among Americans with mobility impairments.  The VT-ILEHP LEND program is proud to announce that our family fellow, Fatuma Bulle, was one of the organizers of the International Women's Day at Burlington City Hall. Her co-organizer was Sandy Baird, Director of Institute for Civic Engagement at Burlington College. International Women's Day has been and is celebrated all over the world in many countries. Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (TN UCEDD) Coordinates the 2014 Gatlinburg Conference
 The theme of this year's conference was "The Co-Occurrence of Mental Illness and Developmental Disability." The theme attracted clinicians and researchers from all over the U.S. and the globe, with attendees flying in from Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and India.
