The AUCD Special Recognition Award is presented to an Association member or group, or to an individual, group, or organization outside of AUCD, to recognize outstanding contributions toward creating more inclusive communities for people with developmental disabilities and their families.

"This August, after literally four years of work on the part of Director Shiu, the OFCCP issued a final rule enforcing Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act that will for the first time put some real teeth into the affirmative action obligations of federal contractors with regard to job applicants and employees with disabilities. We believe Director Shiu has redefined what leadership looks like in the area of disability employment. Her outstanding contribution toward creating a more inclusive workforce will likely be felt for decades to come."
