Newly formed State Health Reform Workgroup

April 2, 2013

AUCD is pleased to announce the newly formed State Health Reform Workgroup. Development of this workgroup was first proposed at the UCEDD Technical Assistance Institute in March, 2013, which addressed aspects of the Affordable Care Act and other health reform initiatives that significantly impact people with disabilities. This workgroup is intended to support network members in their efforts to impact State health reform implementation efforts.

AUCD's State Health Reform Workgroup will supplement the Health Reform Hub by providing a forum for conversation and information-sharing. A listserv will support communication among network members who are involved in state implementation efforts. A SharePoint site will support document-sharing only among workgroup members. Monthly conference calls will provide the opportunity for members to learn about federal updates and discuss state efforts that impact people with disabilities, and as-needed conference calls will address timely initiatives that occur between regularly-scheduled calls (such as release of key guidance documents, funding opportunities, and the like). Active participation through information-sharing, problem-solving, and identifying areas where additional information is needed will support AUCD network members in enhancing their effective involvement in implementation plans relevant to people with disabilities. Collaboration with state partners is encouraged, and network members are welcome to invite their key partners to participate.

The listserv subscription is available on AUCD's Health Reform Hub.  For more information about how to access the Health Reform Hub, click here. Please contact Anna Costalas or Dawn Rudolph with questions. Monthly conference calls will begin April 23, 2013 at 4 pm eastern time and will continue at this time on the fourth Tuesday of every month.

AUCD's Health Reform Hub hosts a wealth of information related to facts about the Affordable Care Act and its implementation, related funding opportunities, policy updates, and links to other helpful websites for additional information. The Hub is updated weekly, and links to all new documents are highlighted in AUCD's Announcements e-newsletter.

AUCD is grateful for the guidance provided by network members in developing this workgroup, including members of the Project Advisory Committee, and especially David Deere, UCEDD Director at Arkansas' Partners for Inclusive Communities, and Liz Hecht, Senior Outreach Specialist at Wisconsin's Waisman Center. This workgroup is an activity of the UCEDD Resource Center and is supported by the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
