In late January, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that it reached a settlement agreement with the Commonwealth of Virginia to resolve violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. In late March, AUCD signed on to an Amici Brief in opposition to a Motion to Intervene filed by thirteen family members of residents of institutions, who oppose the settlement. The brief, drafted by the Center for Public Representation (CPR), argues that the opponents' concerns should be heard, but that formal intervention is not necessary or legally appropriate in this case. AUCD also signed onto a second brief In Support of the Settlement Agreement.
