In response to the federal health reform law, now known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA), and separate state reform  initiatives, some members of at least 45 state legislatures have proposed legislation to limit, alter or oppose selected state or federal actions.

The Supreme Court justices announced November 14 that they will hear the suits filed by 26 states and by the National Federation of Independent Business, challenging the federal health law’s individual mandate — the requirement that almost all people in the United States buy insurance. Dates to hear these suites are the following:

  • March 26, 2012 - Dept. HHS v. Florida (Anti-Injunction Act)
  • March 27, 2012 - Dept. HHS v. Florida (Minimum Coverage Provision - 2 hours for argument)
  • March 28, 2012 - National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius, Secretary of H&HS - (Severability - 90 minutes for argument) - 10:00 a.m. Eastern;   Florida v. Dept. of H&HS (Medicaid - 1 hour for argument) - 1:00 p.m. Eastern
