DC LEND at Children's National Medical Center Provides Training in the Middle East

November 30, 2011

The DC LEND program at Children's National Medical Center, through a generous grant from the Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan Foundation, presently provides training to local health professionals in the Fujairah Emirate on the East cost of the United Arab Emirates. The training will result in 8 on-site week-long workshops over the next three years as well as distance learning materials generated by the DC LEND faculty. The first conference is scheduled for December 2011 with subsequent trips in 2012, 2013, and 2014. In addition to training, weekly telemedicine conferences will allow Emirati and American professionals to collaborate on cases and design team treatment plans. Children's National will build and manage a new center in the region (the Khalifa bin Zayed Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Center for the Disabled) with plans for breaking ground in September 2012. This effort is led by Gaetano R. Lotrecchiano, EdD, PhD, DC LEND director and Phil Pearl, MD, Chief of Neurology both from Children's National and The George Washington University in Washington, DC.
