AUCD 2011 Plenaries

October 7, 2011

AUCD 2011 has an exceptional line up of plenaries this year!  Be sure your conference plans include each of these prestigious events.

  1. The Journey Continues: Where We've Been will feature an opening address by Senator Tom Harkin (invited) reflecting on the legislative accomplishments of the past 40 years and the challenges we currently face as we continue our journey.  Then, through speakers and historical video clips, the plenary will remember some of the history, events, and people that led to the many accomplishments that have promoted equity and excellence for individuals with disabilities.
  2. The Journey Continues: Where We Are will provide network members the opportunity to hear from individuals within the current Administration who oversee many of the disability programs important to our network.  A time for questions will be built in to the event.
  3. The Journey Continues: Where We're Going will feature a panel of emerging leaders representing the UCEDD network, the LEND network, self-advocates, trainees, young professionals, and national partners.  Each panelist will describe a significant issue, idea, or challenge that will affect the future direction of the network and will imagine what the AUCD network will be like 40 years from now.
  4. A sneak peek, invitation-only screening of the new movie Education Revolution (working title) will begin immediately following the third plenary. In 2010, Filmmaker Dan Habib (NH UCEDD) previewed early clips at the AUCD Conference; in 2011 Dan and central movie subject Kelsey Carroll will be in attendance to introduce and discuss the film. Attendance at this prestigious event will be open to the DC disability community as well as AUCD Conference attendees. AUCD is honored to be the distinguished host of this invitation-only screening - be sure you're there to say, "I saw it first!"
