The Center for Disabilities (SD UCEDD/LEND) Celebrates 40 Years
August 30, 2011
The Center for Disabilities celebrated 40 years of services to the state of South Dakota with a 40th Anniversary Celebration held on Wednesday, August 17, 2011. Approximately 200 people attended the event with special honored guests including Senator Tim and Barb Johnson, South Dakota Governor and Mrs. Daugaard, and Lieutenant Governor Michels.
The program, "Center for Disabilities: This is Your Journey," was a spin-off of the old television program "This is Your Life." Former staff, trainees, and colleagues participated in the program to help recognize significant accomplishments of the Center for Disabilities during each of the four decades. In addition, three of the original Governing Board Members were present as well Charlie Anderson, the first director of the Center. The feeling of the evening was one of great excitement and gratitude for all dedicated work that has been done and willcontinue for people with disabilities and their families. Countless stories of reminiscing were told from all who attended.
