Women's Health Care Module Now Available for Online CEUs Through Human Development Institute-University of Kentucky

April 12, 2011

The Human Development Institute-University of Kentucky Women's Health Care Module, part of the AUCD Electronic Tool Kit for Health Care Practitioners, has now been approved for online Continuing Education Credit for both nurse practitioners and nurses. This interactive, virtual patient module, focused on the needs of patients with intellectual disabilities, was tested with over 100 student health care practitioners (Boyd et al., 2008) in terms of its effectiveness in improving both knowledge and perceived student practitioner comfort level. The Women's Health tutorial offers virtual practitioner and patient modeling in reducing patient anxiety about the physical exam, breast self-examinations, awareness of potential sexual activity and contraception, and issues of sexual abuse. Credits are awarded through the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation via the University of Kentucky College of Nursing. The Women's Health tutorial can be accessed here.

AUCD trainees and faculty and staff who do not require Continuing Education Credits can access these modules at no cost here. The creation of these modules was funded through a grant to the Human Development Institute, University Center for Excellence, from the Kentucky Council on Developmental Disabilities.
