Institute on Disabilities at Temple University Associate Director Amy S. Goldman has been awarded the 2010 Pennsylvania Clinical Achievement Award from the Pennsylvania Speech-Language-Hearing Association. This award recognizes distinguished contributions to the field of speech-language pathology.
Ms. Goldman was also a nominee for the prestigious Louis M. DiCarlo Award for Recent Clinical Achievement, given by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation in recognition of an individual's significant accomplishments in the advancement of clinical service in speech-language pathology and/or audiology.
The Association of each state submits one nominee whose work has demonstrated contributions to advancing knowledge in clinical practice within the past six years. In support of her nomination, Kevin T. Casey, Deputy Secretary, Office of Developmental Programs (ODP), Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, said that Ms. Goldman has provided important technical assistance to the ODP in the development of policy that affirms the right to communication and advances the quality of life for thousands of Pennsylvanians with intellectual and developmental disabilities. "Her input into the 2009 Developmental Programs Bulletin, ‘Communication Supports and Services'," Deputy Secretary Casey said, "assisted our office in articulating appropriate practices for identifying and meeting the needs of individuals with complex communication needs."
While helping to develop a workforce of licensed speech-language pathologists who can provide quality augmentative and alternative communication services, Ms. Goldman also co-authored an online course, "Everyone Can Communicate," for the College of Direct Support-http://info.collegeofdirectsupport.com/go/curriculum/courses/-- sponsored by ODP, an opportunity for families, direct support professionals, and others to learn about how they can promote communication.
Ms. Goldman was recognized for her achievement at the ASHF Founders' Breakfast, at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association National Convention, Philadelphia, on November 19, 2010.
