FY2011 Think College Mini Grant Competition
Think College at the Institute for Community Inclusion (ICI) at the University of Massachusetts Boston, with funding from the Administration on Developmental Disabilities and in collaboration with the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD), is conducting a comprehensive national training initiative designed to increase the participation of individuals with intellectual and other developmental disabilities in postsecondary education.
Purpose
The purpose of this competition is to increase opportunities for postsecondary education for students with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities within the UCEDD network, in partnership with their respective Developmental Disabilities Councils and other key state partners.
Prioirty AreaThe project priority area is state level collaborative planning in partnership with the state DD Council and other key stakeholders resulting in an action plan to increase opportunities for inclusive postsecondary education (PSE) for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
GoalThe overarching goal is a plan that will result in measurable increases in participation of students with intellectual/developmental disabilities in inclusive PSE.
EligibilityOnly applicants from the network of University Centers for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDDs) are eligible to apply.
Awards
- Think College will award up to two mini-grants of $50,000 each for an 18-month period to implement inclusive postsecondary education options for a minimum of 3 people with intellectual/DD who will register for and participate in typical college courses with peers without disabilities, integrated paid employment, and in social aspects of the college community.
- Think College will award up to six mini-grants of $15,000 each for a 9-month period to support statewide strategic planning to implement an inclusive postsecondary initiative statewide.
- The anticipated project start date is January 1, 2011.
The NSIP/Think College mini-grant will award one mini-grant of $40,000 for an 18-month period The intent of this mini-grant is to demonstrate how a UCED can support an individual with an IDD to complete a national service term and earn a Segal education award as a pathway to postsecondary education. - The anticipated start date is March 1, 2011
