Caldwell Named New Policy Analyst

The Association of University Centers on Disabilities is extremely pleased to announce that Joseph Caldwell, Ph.D., has been hired to work as Policy Analyst. Joe has a great understanding of key disability issues and outstanding experiential knowledge concerning the policy development process. He joins the AUCD Central Office on February 5, 2007.

In addition to a strong research and service background in consumer-directed support and family support policy, Caldwell brings more than seven years experience from within the AUCD network. He served as the AUCD's 2005 Policy Fellow, and worked in close collaboration to strengthen the role of consumers within the AUCD network. During his tenure as Policy Fellow, Caldwell also earned his Ph.D. in Disability Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). Following his fellowship, he taught three graduate courses in disability policy at UIC. He is the recipient of a number student awards from UIC (Page-El scholarship award), the College of Applied Health Sciences (outstanding masters thesis for the 2002 graduating class), Association of University Centers for Excellence in Disability (Anne Rudiger award), the International Association for the Scientific Study of Intellectual Disability (IASSID Stevens Shapiro award), and most recently an AAMR student award. He has recently been published in the Journal of Disability Policy Studies, Mental Retardation, and Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Research Reviews.
