The Institute on Disability Studies (MS UCEDD) Receives the Governor's Community Project of Excellence Award

Mississippi Home of Your Own (HOYO) has received its third Governor's Community Project of Excellence Award. Governor Hailey Barbour presented the Institute for Disability Studies' Executive Director Royal Walker with the 2010 Best Homebuyer Assistance Award for the work of the HOYO program. IDS received awards in 2007 and 2002. About IDS

The mission of the Institute for Disability Studies (IDS) is to positively affect the lives of Mississippi citizens with developmental and other disabilities and their families across the life span and to work toward increasing their independence, productivity and integration into their communities.

Core functions include providing interdisciplinary preservice preparation and continuing education of students, professionals and para-professionals; providing community services for individuals disabilities, their families, professionals, paraprofessionals, policy makers, students, and others; conducting research, evaluation and analysis of public policy in areas that affect individuals with disabilities and their families; and disseminating information.
