More than 530 disability rights advocates from across the country joined us at this year's Disability Policy Seminar. From Health Care Reform implementation to groundbreaking supportive housing legislation and efforts to increase the financial security for people with disabilities, attendees had the opportunity to get their questions answered by Washington's top policy experts.

Sharon Lewis, the new ADD Commissioner, was presented with the 2010 Leadership in Disability Policy Award for her tremendous work on education, employment, asset development, and other disability legislation during her tenure as staff for House Education and Labor Chairman George Miller (D-CA). AUCD's President Tamar Heller presented Sharon with the award.

The expertise of the AUCD network was evident.  A number of UCEDD/LEND Directors, Board Members, and AUCD Staff were presenters during this year's Seminar.  Presenters included: Tamar Heller, PhD (IL UCEDD/LEND); Bill Kiernan, PhD (MA UCEDD/LEND); Lu Zeph, EdD (ME UCEDD); Bob Bacon, MA (IA UCEDD/LEND); Kim Musheno (AUCD); and Ellen Jensby, JD (AUCD).

AUCD again had a huge number of trainees attend this year's Seminar.  Over 60 trainees from across the country came to learn more about policy and advocacy for people with developmental disabilities. They were active participants in Wednesday's Capitol Hill visits in support of legislation supporting their training programs and other issues important to people with disabilities.  Watch AUCD's website for photos and reactions from trainee participants.
