Kathleen Sheppard-Jones awarded 2009 Young Professional Award

Kathleen Sheppard-Jones, PhD, of the Interdisciplinary Human Development Institute at the University of Kentucky, recieved the 2009 Young Professional Award at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) Annual Meeting and Conference.

The award is presented to professionals in the disabilities field under the age of 40 years who have demonstrated dedication and commitment to people with developmental disabilities and their families through their work as a bridge between the academic sector and the community.

Kathleen holds a teaching appointment in the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation Counseling, and within the Kentucky UCEDD, is the Lead Instructor for the Graduate Certificate in Developmental Disabilities, the Director of Adult Services, Training Director, and Chairs the Interagency Post-Secondary Education Workgroup.

Her nominator wrote, "She truly represents our network's capacity to nurture the next generation of leaders within our field, except in Dr. Sheppard-Jones' case, the word 'future' is perhaps out of place.  She has already assumed that role, so evident in her impact upon state policy in Kentucky."
