Paul Carbone awarded 2009 Meritorious Service Award

Paul Carbone, MD, of the Utah Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities—a collaboration of the University of Utah and Utah State University received the 2009 Meritorious Service Award today at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) Annual Meeting and Conference.

The AUCD Meritorious Service Award is presented to an Association member or group in recognition of professional and personal efforts that proactively support AUCD in achieving its mission to advance policy and practice for and with people living with developmental and other disabilities, their families and communities.

As a general pediatrician in a university setting, his passion for individuals with autism has given him an impressive local reputation and is evidenced by his talk, "You're Going to Love this Kid!" a lecture to primary care physicians in the community about children with autism spectrum disorder.   His nominator noted that Paul's activities "would be meritorious if they had occurred over a ten-year period of professional service, but over the past three and a half years these commitments have taken up his nights, weekends, and holidays."
