Institute on Community Integration, University of Salamanca, Spain Becomes Newest AUCD Network International Affiliate Member

The Director of the Institite on Community Integration at the University of Salamanca, Spain, Miguel-Angel Verdugo Alonso, was presented with an official letter of welcome to the AUCD network by AUCD President-Elect Tamar Heller, PhD (IL UCEDD, LEND).  Dr. Heller was on hand as a speaker at the VII National Scientific Conference on Disabilities at the University of Salamanca, Spain on March 18-20. 

The Institute on Community Integration (INICO) is the only Institute in the University of Salamanca, and in the Spanish society, devoted to people with disabilties. INICO was legally estabished in 1997 by the regional government´s Departament of Education (Regional Bill 181/1997) although INICO has been developing its training programs and researchactivities since 1991.

The mission of INICO is to undertake specialized research and training activities and to offer technical support that promotes, increases, and facilitates living conditions for disadvantaged people in different contexts through their life-span. Target populations for INICO's services include people with physical, psychological, or sensory disabilities; people with chronic-illness or psychiatric disorders; minorities; and disadvantaged people.
