Vanderbilt Kennedy Center Facilitates East Tennessee Disability Services and the Hispanic Community Conference

February 23, 2009

The Tennessee Disability Network and community agencies, including the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities and the University of Tennessee Boling Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (TN UCEDDs), are facilitating the East Tennessee Disability Services and the Hispanic Community Conference in April 2009.  The programming will educate service providers, who work with Spanish-speaking families, on issues of cultural competence and will encourage accessing expertise in the Camino Seguro Middle and West resource database systems, which identify disability and social service resources for Spanish-speaking families.  The Conference also will provide a platform for implementing a Camino Seguro East database.  Spanish-speaking parents of children with disabilities will be educated through the Support and Training for Exceptional Parents (STEP, Tennessee's PTI)-facilitated breakout session, Parents' Introduction To Their Basic Special Education Rights. The Conference is free of charge for all participants. For more information on the Conference, visit http://kc.vanderbilt.edu/site/ucedd/functions/page.aspx?id=321.
