New Resources for Parents of Children with Epilepsy

January 27, 2008

The USC UCEDD at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles has released two important resources for providers and families related to children with epilepsy. The Spanish language version of Epilepsy and Seizure Disorders: A Resource Guide for Parents, provides parents and caregivers with information and tools they can use to better understand and manage their child's condition. Topics include Understanding Epilepsy and/or Seizure Disorders, Health Care for my Child: Access to Care/Access to Services, Advocacy and Support, and Forms and Tools. To order the guide, click here.

The guide is also available at no cost in PDF version at the Epilepsy Foundation of Northern California's website.

The Seizure Description Tool, available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese, assists parents and caregivers in describing their child's seizures and in reporting current anti-epilepsy medications taken by their child to the primary care physician or neurologist. The Seizure Description Tool uses simple graphics to facilitate communication between providers and parents/caregivers who may be monolingual in Spanish or Vietnamese, or who may have low literacy skills. The Seizure Description Tool is available at no cost in PDF version.

These resources were developed under Project Access--Improving Access to Care for Youth with Epilepsy in California, funded by HRSA's Maternal and Child Health Bureau, grant #H98MCO3905.
