August 4, 2008
The Alliance for Health Reform and the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured (KCMU) cosponsored a briefing on July 25, 2008, which examined oral health in the broader conversation of improving quality and expanding access. The following publications were released at the event:
- Access to Affordable Dental Care: Gaps for Low-Income Adults examines the dental access problems experienced by adults ages 19 to 64 in families with incomes at or below 200% of the federal poverty level using the 2005 Kaiser Low-Income Coverage and Access Survey.
- Filling an Urgent Need: Improving Children's Access to Dental Care in Medicaid and SCHIP outlines approaches and measures available at the state level to improve children's access to oral health care in Medicaid and the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). In many cases, state-specific examples are provided as illustrations. The report was prepared by KCMU and the National Academy for State Health Policy.
- Dental Coverage and Care for Low-Income Children: The Role of Medicaid and SCHIP discusses disparities in children's oral health care, coverage of oral health care in Medicaid and SCHIP, efforts to increase access to oral health care for children, and looking ahead.
- Information from the briefing, including background information, speaker presentations, source materials, and other briefing documents, is available from the Alliance for Health Reform.
