Vanderbilt Kennedy Center (TN UCEDD) Educating Administrative Law Judges on Autism

May 14, 2008

In April 2008, faculty members from the VKC TN UCEDD trained judges, attorneys, and law school professors from Tennessee and surrounding states on the topic of autism. The Judges learned the basic science of autism and how assessments are done. They were educated on comorbidities and on treatment options. The training will give judges who hear special education cases the background they need to better understand the families who are in the court system seeking special education services. In August 2007, the VKC TN UCEDD conducted training with judges that focused on an overview of IDEA, on an overview of developmental disabilities, and on all assessment services and procedures related to developmental disabilities.
