Len Abbeduto, PhD
Len Abbeduto, Waisman Center Associate Director for Behavioral Sciences and Director of the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (also at the Waisman Center), was recently named the Charles J. Anderson Professor of Education. The professorship is named after the first dean of the School of Education, who served as dean from 1930 to 1947. The professorship honors a School of Education faculty member who makes nationally significant contributions through leadership in research. Abbeduto is the only second recipient of this named professorship.

He also has been honored for his research with a Kellett Mid-Career Award. The award, which includes $60,000 in unrestricted research support, is given annually by the Graduate School. The award recognizes faculty with five to 20 years of work beyond his or her first promotion to a tenured position. Supported by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF), the award is named for William R. Kellett, a former president of the WARF board of trustees and retired president of Kimberly-Clark Corp.

Abbeduto, Department of Educational Psychology, is considered one of the leading scholars investigating the language problems of children with fragile X syndrome, the most common inherited cause of intellectual disabilities. He received a Distinguished Teaching Award in 1996 and is a past chair of the Department of Educational Psychology.
