Understanding Disability Legislation for National Service Programs

September 19, 2007

National service programs are obligated under federal law to ensure nondiscriminatory environments, practices, and procedures for qualified persons with disabilities. This online course provides an overview of several pieces of key legislation: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Domestic Volunteer Service Act of 1973, the National and Community Service Act of 1990, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Through multiple formats, information is presented to help you gain an understanding of how to apply the federal laws that specifically relate to national and community service programs - and to help you create a more inclusive program that allows qualified individuals with all types of abilities to serve and volunteer.
