AUCD signed a letter in support of the Improving Access to Higher Education Act of 2017, which bolsters postsecondary education for students with intellectual disabilities in many ways. Notably, the legislation continues and strengthens Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSIDs) and a National Coordinating Center that collaborates with TPSIDs and provides technical assistance to families and higher education institutions.

The bill also trains faculty to deliver accessible instruction, requires that higher education institutions establish an office of accessibility, institutes universal design for learning (UDL) across insititutions, improves data collection and expands accessible instutrctional materials and technologies.

The letter was submitted to Representative Bobby Scott, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
