AUCD signed onto a letter to Chairman Tom Cole (R-OK) and Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) of the House Labor-HHS Subcommittee requesting an increase in funding of public health and biomedical research programs in order to support an effective federal response to the Zika virus during FY 2018. The requested funding would be directed to biomedical research conducted by the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute for Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), as well as HRSA's Title V MCH Block Grant, the CDC National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infection Diseases, and NCBDDD.
