Transition of Young Adults in Special Education to Post High School Life

In an attempt to maximize opportunity, transition services have been developed to promote social and economic involvement in all aspects of society for individuals with disabilities. For high school students with disabilities, these services are intended to improve access to employment, postsecondary education, vocational training, adult services, independent living, and community involvement. Specific interventions should assist students in identifying career goals, gaining work experience, receiving instruction in daily living skills, connecting to adult services and community agencies specific to their needs, and receiving guidance in identifying work or school opportunities.
