AUCD submitted comments to the FDA on the proposed Rule to ban electrical stimulation devices (ESD) that are used to treat self-injurious or aggressive behavior. In the comments, AUCD notes that research on aversive stimuli does not support the argument that the use of ESDs is therapeutic or beneficial, and observes that it often leaves lingering harmful effects on individuals on whom it is used. AUCD fully supports the proposed Rule and encourages the FDA to implement the ban.
