In a letter addressed to members of the House of Representatives, AUCD's Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Centers (IDDRC) urged lawmakers to secure the greatest possible level of emergency supplemental funding to address the Zika virus. Although the ability of the Zika virus to permeate the U.S. is intensifying, Congress has still not appropriated funds to support emergency response and vaccine development. Without immediate action, the virus will continue to spread and its impact will last longer. Additionally, IDDRCs ask Congress to ensure that appropriate funds are allocated to the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), whose work plays a critical role in the success of the immediate and long-term response to Zika.
