ResearchMatch (www.ResearchMatch.org) is a national online platform promoting the completion of clinical trials by matching individuals willing to participate in research with investigators nationwide. Health & Wellness Initiative Creates Positive Lifestyle Changes (KY UCEDD)
This December marks the one year anniversary of Kentucky state-wide scale up efforts with HealthMatters. To date, 14 organizations from all corners of the state have reported serving 467 clients who have completed HealthMatters programming. This only includes those individuals who completed the full programming and doesn't even count those who saw the fun and benefits of physical activity and joined in. The results have been very encouraging. Participants have reported feeling healthier, feeling better about themselves, and have started incorporating what they've learned from the health promotion programming into their daily lives. MN LEND Webcast Will Address Neurobiology of Poverty
The 2016 Minnesota LEND Forum, "The Neurobiology of Poverty - Children Living in Poverty: Neurodevelopmental and Biological Correlates," explores what is known about the life-long effects of growing up in poverty via the perspectives of two leading researchers in the field. Dr. Seth Pollak of the University of Wisconsin-Madison will discuss, "Child Poverty and the Income-Achievement Gap: Insights from Cognitive Neuroscience" and Dr. Megan Gunnar from the University of Minnesota will present, "Poverty, Allostatic Load and the Stress Neuraxis: A Mechanism or a Bridge Too Far?" Planning for Emergencies in Oklahoma: Investing in Partnerships (OK UCEDD)
Oklahoma is a beautiful state, but, as in other areas of the country, unexpected events can lead to emergency conditions in people's lives. With tornados, floods, ice-storms, and earthquakes, people who live in Oklahoma need to be ready to handle extreme natural events. Mother Nature can create emergencies for everyone, including people with intellectual/developmental disabilities (IDD). However, few Oklahomans with IDD have emergency plans in place. OKSAN (Oklahoma Self-Advocacy Network), a collaborative project facilitated by the Oklahoma UCEDD, has partnered with the American Red Cross to create an emergency preparedness curriculum by Oklahoma self-advocates for Oklahoma self-advocates. Iowa UCEDD Partners with State Agencies on Recidivism Reduction Initiative
Iowa is one of five states that received a $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Justice as part of their Second Chance Act Comprehensive Statewide Adult Recidivism Reduction Program. Study Suggests Correlation between rise of ADHD Diagnosis and Increased Academic Expectations in Young Children (FL UCEDD/LEND)

People On the Go (MD UCEDD)
People On the Go is Maryland's self-advocacy group of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities around the state who advocate for change. People On the Go members have come together for years to ensure that the voices of persons with disabilities influence services, policies, and practices. They are also engaged in a number of training projects at the Maryland Center for Developmental Disabilities at Kennedy Krieger Institute through funding from both the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council and the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. ThinkWork! Projects Appear in NPR and PBS Series (MA UCEDD/LEND)
Two projects run by the Institute for Community Inclusion's ThinkWork! got some national media coverage recently. StateData.info WAMU 88.5 News, an NPR affiliate out of Washington D.C., came out with a four-part series called From Institution to Inclusion: For D.C. residents with developmental disabilities, it's been a decades-long fight to be treated like everyone else. (https://wamu.atavist.com/from-institution-to-inclusion) In part IV of the series, titled, "The Next Challenge: Jobs," the article cites annually collected data from The National Report on Employment Services and Outcomes which highlights the low percentage of workforce participation among D.C. residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
