This document briefly describes the major challenges associated with the inclusion and support of people with disabilities in the interdisciplinary training context, offers strategies that programs are currently implementing to address the identified challenges, and identifies some of the themes that emerged from successful LEND programs' experiences across four topic areas:

  1. Faculty and Institutional Buy-In
  2. Trainee Recruitment
  3. Funding Availability and Flexibility
  4. Curriculum Adaptation, Acommodations, and Mentorship

This resource is the product of the LEND workgroup on people with disabilities as long-term trainees, and a follow up to its recent survey on the state of participation among people with disabilities within the network.  Information was collected from LEND Directors and relevant faculty members in response to workgroup-generated questions about their programs' experiences engaging people with disabilities.
