Project Summary:

Actively build awareness of LEND training among underrepresented minority students who have been accepted to professional schools at three universities, and collaborate with Black fraternities and sororities at multiple campuses to provide activities where undergraduate students can interact with individuals who have neurodevelopmental disabilities through community service opportunities.

Objectives Accomplished:

  • Completed a new brochure that emphasizes the importance of trainee diversity and includes pictures of underrepresented minorities; identified opportunities at all participating LEND sites to distribute literature to accepted (but undecided) professional school applicants
  • Taped and edited a LEND recruitment video that includes four minority healthcare professionals talking about their careers and roles in serving individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities, plus Dr. Reimschisel talking about the importance of having diverse healthcare professionals
  • Set funding aside for student volunteer background checks; setting up meetings with Black fraternities and sororities to present opportunities and share the video
