Military Flag Dedicated to Kennedy Krieger (MD UCEDD/LEND)

May 5, 2015

On December 11, 2014, the Department of Neuropsychology hosted a special guest at its annual holiday party-Captain Michael Yates, US Army. Dr. Yates is a former neuropsychology doctoral trainee who recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team 101st Airborne Division. During his service as an Army psychologist in the Laghman Province of Eastern Afghanistan, Dr. Yates arranged for an American flag to be flown in honor of Kennedy Krieger Institute on June 20, 2014, at the Forward Operating Base Gamberi, in recognition of all who have served in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Dr. Yates presented this flag, along with patches that he wore on his uniform while stationed in Afghanistan and a signed certificate of authenticity, to Dr. Mark Mahone and the Department of Neuropsychology at the holiday party. As a gesture of appreciation and recognition of his service, the department presented Dr. Yates with a framed portrait of the Fairmount campus, signed by Neuropsychology faculty and staff. We will proudly display the flag in view of visitors and staff, and we are deeply humbled and appreciative that Dr. Yates chose to honor the Institute and the Department of Neuropsychology in this way.
