Iowa UCEDD Self-Employment Publication Showcases Successful Entrepreneurs with Disabilities
The Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD), Iowa's UCEDD, recently released "Thinking Outside the Employment Box," a publication which tells the stories of 18 entrepreneurs with disabilities and the diverse businesses they have created. Each story describes the genesis for the business, the resources brought together to support the business, and the benefits of business ownership for each entrepreneur. Read more...

Think Employment! Summit Focuses on Raising Expectations, Opportunities, and Future Self-Advocates (Vanderbilt TN UCEDD)
With the goal of sharing best practices and building community partnerships in order to improve employment outcomes for Tennesseans with disabilities, the summit pulled together an impressive lineup of speakers that included Thompson, as well as keynote speakers Paul Wehman, Ph.D., who helped to pioneer the development of supported employment at Virginia Commonwealth University in the early 1980s, and Fiona Hawks, a dynamic and highly independent self-advocate who has been employed full-time for 14 years. Special Issue of Medical Care Highlights Health Disparities at the Intersection of Disability, Race and Ethnicity
"This special issue of Medical Care is focused on the intersection of disability, race, and ethnicity and the particular health care barriers faced by people at this intersection," according to an introductory article by the supplement guest editors, Willi Horner-Johnson, PhD, of Oregon Health & Science University, Portland; Glenn T. Fujiura, PhD, of the University of Illinois at Chicago; and Tawara D. Goode, MA, of Georgetown University. Nebraska Disability Network Hosts Self-Advocates at their Joint Board Meeting (NE UCEDD)
The annual Joint Board meeting of the Nebraska DD Network, including the Munroe-Meyer Institute (UCEDD), the Nebraska Planning Council on Developmental Disabilities, and Disability Rights Nebraska (NE Protection & Advocacy) provided a special opportunity for self-advocate board members from all three network's advisory boards and the officers and advisors of People First Nebraska to further develop self-advocate activities in the state. "Life Course Game" for LEND Trainees (WIHD NY LEND)
LEND Trainees at WIHD are learning how to apply knowledge of Life Course Theory and Social Determinants of Health to their work with children with disabilities and their families. One of the learning experiences in this portion of the curriculum is a session in which LEND trainees play the "Life Course Game" and debrief their experiences with the game. Read more...
