Marcia Moriarta, PsyD, has been appointed the Executive Director of the Center for Development and Disability (CDD) at the University of New Mexico, New Mexico's University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service (UCEDD). The CDD is part of the Department of Pediatrics in the UNM Health Sciences Center and provides a wide array of services, training and resources to support people with disabilities and their families from throughout New Mexico. She will replace Cate McClain, MD, the CDD's long-time Director who will be retiring July 1, 2014.

Dr. Moriarta has long been a leader in New Mexico and has filled important leadership roles at the CDD. As an Associate Professor in Pediatrics, she has worked to improve training opportunities for psychology interns and post doctorate fellows in the area of early childhood. Her clinical focus has been in early childhood development and infant mental health and, as a founding member of the NM Association for Infant Mental Health, she helped lead the initiative to develop and maintain an endorsement process for practitioners.

Since joining the CDD in 2005, first as staff then as faculty, she has lead several important initiatives that support young children and their families. As the Clinical Director of the CDD's Early Childhood Evaluation Program, she provided the oversight for a statewide evaluation and technical assistance program serving children birth to three and their families, and early intervention providers (Part C) who serve them throughout NM. In her most recent role as Director of the CDD's Early Childhood Home and Family Services Division, she has worked with state agencies to develop and implement several home visiting models, infant mental health assessment and treatment programs, a Part C early intervention program for infants at risk and developmental therapy services for infants on the Navajo Nation. Prior to joining the University of NM, Dr. Moriarta coordinated Early Childhood Mental Health Programs at the University of Southern California UCEDD and graduated from the USC LEND Program.

Dr. Moriarta comes to this position with enthusiasm and a commitment to supporting individuals at risk for or with disabilities and their families.

Please join the entire AUCD network in thanking Cate for her service and welcoming Marcia!
