The presentation will focus on a brief discussion of some of the reasons that people with developmental disabilities are more vulnerable to trauma. We will then look at the Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) model and discuss ways of adapting it for youth with IDD and ASD.

Presenters:
Margaret Charlton, PhD, ABPP did her graduate training at Washington University in St. Louis and have my diplomate in clinical psychology. She is a certified TF-CBT therapist. Over the years, she has worked in a variety of settings, including private practice and community mental health. Dr. Charlton currently works for Intercept Center at Aurora Mental Health, where their population is exclusively youth with mental illnesses and co-existing developmental disabilities, most of whom also have trauma histories. Her work for the past 19 years has focused on developing adapted treatment models that meet the needs of this special population.
