Next Chapter Book Club & Beyond: A conference on literacy for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities

Next Chapter Book Club & Beyond: A conference on literacy for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities

Friday, April 17, 2015- Saturday, April 18, 2015
Location: Chicago, IL

Registration for the second international Next Chapter Book Club and Beyond conference is open!

On April 17 and 18, 2015, we'll return to the Magnificent Mile in the heart of Chicago to gather with representatives from 120+ NCBC affiliates to share insights, experiences, and strategies on literacy and lifelong learning for adults with intellectual and  developmental disabilities (IDD).  Advocates, educators, researchers, and anyone with an interest in literacy for adults with disabilities is welcome at this conference.

A program of The OSU Nisonger Center, Next Chapter Book Club (NCBC) was founded in 2002 to provide people and adults with IDD - regardless of reading ability - the chance to be members of a book club.".  NCBC offers weekly opportunities for people with IDD to read and learn together and make friends in a relaxed, community setting.  Expanding from two book clubs in Columbus, OH to over 250 clubs across North America and Europe, NCBC has become the preeminent program of its kind.

For any person or organization interested in becoming an NCBC affiliate, we will once again offer a pre-conference affiliate training.  The much-reduced cost for the pre-conference training is $199 per person.

Additionally, we are now accepting proposals for presentations.  While presentations about NCBC are certainly welcome, we also encourage presenters to explore a variety of topics and render innovative ideas about how people with IDD can engage in literacy and lifelong learning.  Please visit www.nextchapterbookclub.org to learn more, or feel free to contact Jillian at Jillian.Ober@osumc.edu
