Hyman and Stewart and Ms. Schmidt will discuss the prevalence and implications of two specific nutritional deficits commonly identified in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders whose dietary intake was analyzed through the AS ATN Diet and Nutrition Study. The data on intake relative to DRIs for Omega 3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) and for Vitamin D will be discussed separately and related to the specific health and behavioral concerns of children with ASD.
Dr Stewart and Ms. Schmidt are Registered Dietitians and Dr. Hyman is a Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrician at the University of Rochester. In addition to providing coordinated care for children and youth with ASD and other developmental disorders with feeding problems, they have collaborated on the AS ATN and other studies examining nutrition and feeding problems in children with ASD.
