Update on Federal Family Support Policy

Description

Kim Musheno, Director of Public Policy for AUCD, will provide updates on federal legislative issues that impact family support. Updates will include the current status of reauthorization, new legislation and appropriations for: Family Medical Leave Act; Projects of National Significance; Title II of The Developmental Disability Act; Older American's Act- Family Care Giver Support Program; Family-To-Family Health Information Centers; Lifespan Respite and ABLE-Achieving A Better Life Experience Act and activities of the Consortium of Citizens with Disabilities-Family Support Task Force. Updates will be followed by a discussion on action steps for the AUCD network and allies.

This webinar is hosted by the AUCD's Special Interest Group on Family Support. The purpose of the AUCD Family Support SIG is to engage the AUCD network, including UCEDD and LEND members, in playing key roles in moving Family Support and Leadership forward at the national and state level and in advancing leadership in supporting families as part of the core work and values within the UCEDD and LEND programs.

Image of Kim Musheno

Kim Musheno is the Director of Public Policy at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities where she works on federal policy and legislative issues that affect people with developmental disabilities and their families. She also provides leadership as Vice-Chair of the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) Board of Directors, a coalition of more than 100 national disability organizations. Kim co-chairs the CCD Task Forces that work on working on fiscal policy, developmental disabilities, family support and Autism, and serves on the Education and Employment Task Forces.

Rachel Patterson  serves as the Policy Analyst for the Legislative Affairs team, where she focuses on issues related to health, long-term services and supports, and Social Security. She is also the Co-Chair of the CCD Task Force on Long-Term Supports and Services and serves on the Health Task Force.

Sheli Reynolds  serves as the Director of Individual Advocacy and Family Support at UMKC Institute for Human Development, a University Center on Excellence in Developmental Disabilities. She is responsible for projects that directly impact the lives of self-advocates and their families such as the Missouri Family‐to‐Family Disability and Health Information Resource Center, and the Disability Inclusion within Missouri Volunteer Commission. She is also Co-Director of the Community of Practice for Supporting Families of Individuals with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities funded by the ACL-AIDD.
