Session Description:
This session will highlight the role of synapses in understanding normal and abnormal brain function. Dr. Higley will describe the technical revolution using light that is enhancing the ability to understand and monitor synapses in the brain.

Goals and Objectives:
1) Understand the basic structure and organization of synapses.

2) Become familiar with novel optical tools for monitoring and manipulating activity at individual synapses.
