Presentation Abstract: Wyoming's Adult Protection Training (WyAPT) program: The U.S. Department of Justice awarded a grant to WIND to train Fremont County officials to stop abuse and sexual assault of older individuals or individuals with disabilities. Fremont County was selected because of the county's rural nature, the existence of the Wind River Reservation within its borders, the presence of two large communities within the county and a willingness of agencies to collaborate in addressing elder abuse concerns. The mission of Wyoming Adult Protection Training (WyAPT) is to improve the response, investigation and prosecution of crime against vulnerable elder adults in Fremont County. When our vulnerable elderly adults believe they are safe and supported by a responsive system, they are more likely to have a higher quality of life, access to supportive resources, be more socially engaged and feel both valued and respected.
