Cathryn Weir, M.Ed., will discuss how Think College works with programs for students with autism who are not likely to matriculate, how they work with programs around the country, and resources they have available. Barbara Becker-Cottrill, Ed.D., and Marc Ellision, Ed.D., will provide details on how The College Program for Students with Asperger's Syndrome at Marshall University supports students in the program, including strategies for working with professors, residence advisors and others involved in the life of the student; details will also be provided about a summer college experience for high school students. Cathy Pratt, Ph.D., BCBA-D, will share information about Students on the Spectrum at Indiana University, a student-directed club facilitated by the Indiana Resource Center for Autism. The club provides social, support and informational opportunities and has covered topics such as effective self-advocacy, dealing with anxiety, communication and social skills, and finding supports and activities on campus and in the community. Scott Badesch, M.A., will discuss what a parent needs to know and do to help their child succeed when they are living with autism. There will be time reserved for questions. She is the Director of the Indiana Resource Center for Autism at the Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, is on faculty at Indiana University and presents internationally. Dr. Pratt serves on numerous Advisory Boards and has been honored with several awards. She has also written articles and presents on autism spectrum disorders, functional behavior assessment/positive behavior supports, applied behavior analysis, instructional approaches, systems change and policy. Prior to pursuing her doctorate at Indiana University, Dr. Pratt worked as a classroom teacher for students across the autism spectrum and with other disabilities. Dr. Pratt is now a board certified behavior analyst and has just completed her tenure as the Shibles Distinguished Visiting Professor in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Maine.=0D=0A=0D=0ACathryn Weir, M.Ed., Project Coordinator, Think College and the National Coordinating Center for Transition and Postseconday Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities, Institute for Community Inclusion, University of Massachusetts Boston=0D=0A Cate is the project coordinator for Think College and the National Coordinating Center for Transition and Postsecondary Programs for Students with Intellectual Disabilities (TPSID) at the Institute for Community Inclusion at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Previously, she served as project coordinator higher education-related projects at the Institute on Disability at the University of NH. She also has experience as a disability support coordinator and faculty member for the NH Community College System. Cate’s expertise includes the provision of individual supports for postsecondary education for people with intellectual disabilities, person-centered planning and strategic planning for organizations.=0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0ABarbara Becker-Cottrill, Ed.D., BCBA, Executive Director, West Virginia Autism Training Center at Marshall University=0D=0A Barbara Becker-Cottrill received her doctorate in education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has been involved in education and developmental disabilities for the past 32 years, serving as the executive director of the statewide West Virginia Autism Training Center at Marshall University for the past 22 years. She is an instructor at Marshall University teaching courses related to autism and is a co-author of the book Autism: A Primer for Educators. Dr. Becker-Cottrill is a co-founder of the College Program for Students with Asperger Syndrome at Marshall University. She is a member of the Board of the Autism Society -West Virginia Affiliate and serves on the Panel of Professional Advisors for the Autism Society of America.=0D=0A=0D=0AMarc Ellison, Ed.D, Associate Director of Training, West Virginia Autism Training Center =0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0AMarc Ellison, Ed.D. is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and an Approved Licensed Professional Supervisor (ALPS) who has worked more than 27 years to provide person-centered support, services and advocacy to individuals who live with autism spectrum disorders, their families and those who support them. He has supported individuals with ASD throughout their lifespan, as they moved to the community from state-supported institutions, searched for and obtained employment, entered into relationships, and transitioned into college. Currently, Marc is the Associate Director of Training for the West Virginia Autism Training Center, and a part-time professor of Counseling at Marshall University.=0D=0A=0D=0AScott Badesch, MA, President/CEO of the Autism Society of America=0D=0A =0D=0A=0D=0AScott Badesch is the President/CEO of the Autism Society of America, the nation's largest and oldest grassroots organization helping all impacted by autism. Scott has a long and distinguished career in working in the not for profit helping community, including his work as President of the United Way of Palm Beach County, United Way of South Carolina, Northwest Services Coordination (Chicago), and Autism Society of North Carolina. Scott has a Masters of Arts Degree from the University of Chicago's School of Social Services Administration and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Illinois.
