Two Race-to-the-Top assessment consortia are developing regular assessments in which most students with disabilities will participate. Two additional consortia are developing alternate assessments based on alternate achievement standards for students with significant cognitive disabilities=0D=0A=0D=0AThese efforts to develop assessments were described, followed by a more in-depth discussion of the work of the National Center and State Collaborative (NCSC), a consortium of 19 states working to develop an alternate assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities as well as to provide curriculum and instruction materials and professional development for the teachers of these students.
