Project Description
The Munroe-Meyer Institute (MMI) UCD proposes to continue its over 30 year history of AIDD supported activities. Our four major objectives include (1) the delivery of comprehensive educational programs to prepare future professionals to support citizens with disabilities in their home communities; (2) the creation of innovative services and supports which can be replicated in local communities and the delivery of innovative services and supports within the local community; (3) the provision of guidance and support to practitioners, community agencies, and consumer organizations through technical assistance and consultation activities across Nebraska; (4) the conduct of basic and applied research to enhance our knowledge base and disseminate information locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally.
We will utilize MMI's resources to conduct ongoing core activities and to leverage AIDD funding to secure additional resources to meet objectives specified by the Developmental Disabilities Act. We propose to continue our ongoing consumer advocacy, capacity building, and systems change efforts in collaboration with the Nebraska Developmental Disabilities Council and Nebraska Protection and Advocacy Services (P&A) and to continue to seek the active guidance of consumers in our activities through the active participation of our Consumer Advisory Board.
The Nebraska UCD is a vital resource to Nebraska?s community agencies, consumer and self-advocacy groups. We are a major source of training for future professionals, a significant provider of technical assistance for many programs and are active partners with numerous state agencies in systems change and capacity building activities. Our advocacy efforts in collaboration with the DD Council, P&A, Nebraska ARC and other consumer and advocacy groups has been critical to past legislative success and change at the state level.
