This statewide project amalgamates multiple programs supported by federal and state funds. One component provides monthly Title V funded interdisciplinary evaluation services for children with cerebral palsy, mid-line neurological defects, genetic and craniofacial disorders. Interdisciplinary clinics take place quarterly in greater Nebraska communities and monthly clinics in Omaha. The program also conducts TIPS (Tracking Infant Progress Statewide) which includes regular physician follow-up of all infants who were cared for in affiliated neonatal intensive care center of a hospital immediately following birth. There are three levels of follow-up: (1) a questionnaire completed by the local primary care physician; (2) follow-up at regular intervals by a specialized physician; and (3) follow-up with a specialized multidisciplinary team for children with special health care needs. The specific follow-up provided for a specific child depends on the condition at discharge from the hospital and the condition at each follow-up stage. A third component is the Nebraska Birth Defect/Teratogen Project which provides accurate and timely information on exposures to potentially damaging agents during pregnancy and lactation. This information is disseminated to Nebraskas medical community. The projects activities will include staffing a call-line, which enables medical professionals to access the information, maintaining a library of pertinent files and reference texts on pregnancy and lactation exposure to damaging agents, establishing links with national teratogen data sources and utilizing these resources to provide current and comprehensive information regarding specific teratogens.
