Project Description
This project, funded by the Nebraska Volunteer Service Commission will provide service opportunities for 20 individuals. MMI will provide volunteer experience for individuals with and without disabilities. Volunteers will provide from 300, 450, 900, or 1700 hours of service to assist programs supporting persons with disabilities across Nebraska. Members will serve in a variety of roles ranging from providing bilingual translation services in a medical/behavioral primary care practice for individuals and families to providing recreation programs for children with disabilities to assisting occupational and physical therapists in service provision for children with orthopedic problems. Members are provided a modest living stipend during their period of service which is followed by an education award at the completion of their designated hours of commitment. MMI also hopes to utilize the Americorps experience to help recruit individuals to educational programs and careers in the field of disabilities.
