--Policy and politics in the U.S. health care system, especially relating to health care for underserved populations. Expertise in Medicare, Medicaid, disability policy, mental health policy, and long-term care policy.


-The role of ideas in health policy-making, including the emancipatory potential of policy ideas about individual patients and chronic illness patient groups, including elderly, disabled and mentally ill people. Expertise in health care consumerism, the disability rights movement and person-centered medicine.


- The ramifications of policy ideas about the relationship between knowledge and practice in medicine and health care. Expertise in history and philosophy of evidence-based medicine and related policies, including practice guidelines, pay-for-performance, and value-based purchasing.


-Policy scholarship as the assessment of claims made for prevailing health care ideas and practices. Expertise in the history of U.S. health policy and the rhetorical nature of policy problems and solutions.
