Connecting Kansas Kids (CKK) is a grant that affords education and connection to teachers, school nurses, other educational staff, parents, peers, and siblings of students with chronic health conditions and/or palliative care needs throughout the state of Kansas.
Project management includes:
Development of a website to provide information and education for teachers, students, parents, siblings and peers of students with special needs (www.connectedkansaskids.com); scheduling and coordinating inservice modules via interactive televideo connections
Contacting and scheduling schools across the state to arrange inservice scheduling
Providing on-site visits to schools of students with serious health conditions
Providing school and community consultations for communities with palliative care needs
Providing consultation for sibling and peer support in schools with a student with palliative care needs
Providing consultation for educators in schools with a student with palliative care needs
Establishing programs and interventions at school for students with palliative care needs
Supporting Do Not Resuscitate requests at school for students at end-of-life
Interacting, across the state, with key educational personnel to provide education regarding grant project
Arranging hospital-to-school connectivity, via ITV hook-ups, for students who have lengthy hospitalization stays.
Educating schools, communities, children with chronic illnesses and their families about the CKK project.
Presenting, in various schools, 30 separate inservice topics that range from special education legislation, to specific special education categories, various chronic illnesses that impact learning and achievement, the grieving child, techniques for helping special learners succeed, accommodations and modifications for special learners, palliative care issues in the schools, DNR issues in schools, etc.
