Vita/Bio

A. Personal Statement
The goal of the proposed project is to train graduate and post-graduate students on the complex needs of individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities (NDD) and their families to improve the health of infants, children, and adolescents who have, or are at risk for developing NDD. For the past 20 years my professional career has focused on the speech, language, and literacy issues of individuals with developmental disabilities. At Nisonger Center I serve as the faculty coordinator in Speech Language Pathology, Co-Director of our Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities program, and Associate Director of the Center. I am extensively involved in teaching, clinical and research programs for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Because of my history I am acutely aware of the lack of evidence based interventions for individuals with autism spectrum disorder and other NDD. This project has the potential to address a much neglected area of research. As a co-director on this project I bring over 20 years of experience evaluating and treating speech and language impairments in individuals with NDD, in planning and evaluating LEND curriculum, and in managing large grants.
