The Divisions of Academic General Pediatrics and Adolescent Health and Medicine at the University of Minnesota announce a new postdoctoral fellowship opportunity in our interdisciplinary training program. These new positions, each with funding for 2 to 3 years, are focused on preparing leaders from across health-related disciplines for careers in primary care research.

Fellows will participate in a dynamic interdisciplinary child and adolescent health leadership curriculum, have the option to participate in our LEND program (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities) and pursue coursework or a degree (MPH or MS) that supports their leadership development and professional growth.

I am pleased that at least one of these new positions is available to an individual with an interest in research related to youth with chronic conditions and the transition to adulthood and adult healthcare. Our programs have a long history of research (clinical intervention, social-epidemiology and health policy) , training and advocacy related to youth with chronic conditions. Fellows have the opportunity to participate in ongoing federally funded research and to pursue their own areas of research interest.

Positions are available starting this fall (2011) for individuals with an MD, PhD, or comparable doctoral degree in a health-related field (Nursing, Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, Medicine) or with a doctoral degree in another field and a research interest in this topic.

Fellowship positions are also available for individuals with other research interests related to primary care in child and adolescent health. Current topics of faculty research include adolescent pregnancy prevention, youth violence prevention, youth mental health promotion, and adolescent nutrition, in addition to other primary care areas.
