Now Archived: Autism Spectrum Disorder and Children's Mental Health

The Multicultural Council Presents: Supporting Former Refugee Families with Children with Disabilities in LEND Programs

This presentation will discuss recruitment of former refugees to the Vermont LEND. Specifics will be presented on cultural and linguistic competence professional development for faculty, staff, trainees, as well as mentorship. A Vermont LEND trainee and former refugee from Somalia will present her vision and work in the Medical Home wing as it relates to culturally responsive care coordination. Steps for advocacy and systems change will also be discussed.

2014 CAAI Webinar: Reducing Disparities for People with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Disparities in accessing diagnostic and treatment services, access to care based on location, and racial and cultural differences in outcomes exist in our health care service systems. This webinar focused on CAAI grantees' work in reducing some of these disparities for individuals on the autism spectrum.

Health, Behavior and Healthy Behavior for Children and Adults with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities

Individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD) are more likely to have health related problems and also likely to challenges in accessing appropriate health care. These realities are complicated by limitations in communication and by some behavioral expressions of distress. This presentation reviewed some of the health related considerations and the importance of understanding health promotion in preventing unnecessary medical and behavioral complications for people with IDD.

2014 CAAI Webinar: Autism Spectrum Disorder and Transition

This webinar began with a presentation from Got Transition staff who spoke broadly about transition and an upcoming Federal transition plan, followed by CAAI grantee presentations on research, training, state-specific successes and best practices for advancing transition for individuals on the autism spectrum.

Applied Behavior Analysis: Statewide Issues and Solutions Webinar

In this webinar, issues around the implementation of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programs were discussed including licensure, funding, diversity of practices and quality, understanding of ABA and collaboration between ABA providers and other organizations. Both Tennessee and Indiana have addressed these issues and in different ways. This webinar highlighted the processes both states have followed in trying to reach some consensus and to promote legislation in this area.

Disability Policy Seminar Orientation For Students, Trainees, and Early Career Professionals

This webinar, presented by Kim Musheno, Director of Public Policy at AUCD, offered students, trainees and early career professionals an orientation to the policy issues and current legislation one can expect to learn more about at the 2014 Disability Policy Seminar. In addition to this content, attendees learned the basics of how to meet with Congressional representatives and deliver a unified message about federally funded programs that benefit people with disabilities.
